Want to know more?
The Booking ProcessPlease use our contact form to let us know the basic details of your event. We will send you a quote and confirm our availability as soon as possible.
We ask for a £95 deposit to secure the date along with part 1 of our booking form for all events. For wedding bookings, there is a second part to the booking form which is completed by 1 month before the event. This is for more detailed information on music choices and venue details. |
Classical JukeboxLet your guests make the music choices!
How it works: Repertoire lists, request cards and pens are displayed in appropriate places. Guests deposit the cards in a box next to the quartet and this creates our playlist for our music. The cards can then be kept as a memory of the music chosen. This is a free addition for any booking. |
Function, Parties and Other EventsWe've played for many different types of events, just get in touch and and tell us about your event for a quote.
You can make specific requests from our repertoire or you can choose a theme e.g. classical, contemporary pop, classic pop, film and disney or give us an indication of the atmosphere you would like to create e.g. relaxed, lively music. Or just ask for a mixture of everything! We are also happy to play a specific piece at a special moment of your event should that be appropriate, just let us know your requirements. |
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do you charge?
As each event has different requirements, we don't publish our fees online. We have different packages to suit your budget. Packages start from £540 plus travel expenses. Our hourly rate gets cheaper the longer you book us so longer equals better value! Please contact us directly with your requirements. This allows us to offer you the best quote for your event. Can I request something that is not in your repertoire? Yes! Please do! We are yet to decline a request. Having a personalised arrangement is the perfect way to make the music for your wedding unique. Please get in touch to discuss your requests. Please note, there will be an additional charge for this service. What will you need on the day? We will need four arm-less chairs and an area of space approximately 2 metres by 3 metres. Please see photos for an idea of the way we arrange ourselves. If we are to play outside please ensure there is adequate shade. We will need somewhere to store our cases and bags whilst we are playing, and basic refreshments. Do you have public liability insurance? Yes, we have public liability insurance. It renews every year in July so depending on how far in advance you book us, we may not be able to send you the certificate suitable for your date until nearer the time. Can I hear you play? The best way to hear us play is by listening to our videos on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. We often have a few wedding fairs or concerts in the diary. Please contact us for the latest information. |
Can you play outside?
The Obligato String Quartet is very happy to play outside but we will need shade from the sun to protect our instruments. If it is windy there will be longer gaps between pieces whilst we rearrange our music (and in strong winds we will need to sit somewhere sheltered to stop it blowing away!). At other times of the year we can only guarantee to play outside in suitable temperatures - neither the instruments or our fingers will work if it's below about 12 degrees centigrade (as a guide, if your guests are feeling the cold, we will too). We will need to move inside at the first drops of rain as any water will severely damage the instruments. Can you play hymns? Yes, we have access to hundreds of hymns which can be arranged for your service. We will need at least one months notice for this. Please note, religious music is not permitted at non religious ceremonies. What will you wear? Depending on personnel, we may be able to offer some of our matching dresses. We will contact you in the month before your date to let you know what options are available. We can also wear the traditional smart black, or dress as if we were guests at your event e.g. colourful wedding outfits. What does 'coming soon' mean? There are a few reason that for our 'coming soon' tunes on our repertoire list. It could be that an arrangement has been requested but not yet written or bought. Or, it could mean we have the arrangement but it's never been requested so it will need to go on our rehearsal list before it is fully available. Please let us know if you have any questions about 'coming soon' tunes. As long as we know you want the tune in advance, we'll be able to make sure it's ready for your date. |
Acoustic or Amplified?
The majority of the weddings we have played at over our 15 years in business have been acoustic.
Here are some examples of times when amplification can increase the value of your booking:
Extra considerations for amplification:
Please ask us for advice. If we have played at your venue before, we may be able to make suggestions. Also, the venue manager is likely to have good advice on what will work best.
The majority of the weddings we have played at over our 15 years in business have been acoustic.
Here are some examples of times when amplification can increase the value of your booking:
- Outdoor ceremonies where there is wind to compete with.
- Outdoor ceremonies where you would like the sound to travel some distance.
- Receptions where the guests may be spread over different locations and you would like more than one area to be able to enjoy the music
- Indoor weddings where the acoustics of the room are quite noisy or there are a lot of guests in a small space.
Extra considerations for amplification:
- There will be an additional charge of £75
- We will need to arrive earlier to set up equipment and will need a more space for the two speakers.
- We will not be able to relocate quite as quickly and easily. If we are playing acoustically, we can usually take everything with us in one trip if there are already chairs in the new location. It is likely to take at least one extra trip to move the amplification equipment plus a bit of extra time for unplugging and plugging in again. This also means we will more cautious about the weather as it will take more time to get everything undercover if needed.
- We will probably need access to electricity. We do have the capability of playing on battery power but this is subject to availability as it requires booking equipment in advance. If you are interested in this, we recommend discussing this at the point of making a booking to ensure availability.
